Getting started

Working comfortably with EH Designer

EH Designer is a tool for designing electrical, smart home, alarm, CCTV and network installations. The mobile version is fully functional, but is intended mainly for viewing projects and making quick changes. For longer sessions, use a large screen, a mouse and keyboard shortcuts to work comfortably and efficiently.

  1. Start with one room and follow the wizard steps.
Getting started

Project wizard with Lena

Lena guides you through the project step by step, opens the appropriate view and highlights the tools. The order depends on your selected scope.

  1. The option to design with Lena is selected by default in the New project form, including for existing users. A new account’s first project always starts with Lena.
  2. For later projects, you can deselect Lena to work independently. Your choice is saved to your account; selecting her again enables the wizard for subsequent projects. In local mode, the browser remembers the choice.
  3. Add a PDF, image, Google Maps background or DWG/DXF file. Once the background is added, the wizard moves to scope selection. A background is required to start the project.
  4. Choose the pricing scope, installation types and manufacturers. Rack cabinets are under Installations and equipment. For Smart Home, also choose the functions you need.
  5. Click “Show me the tool”. Lena opens the appropriate view and highlights the actual button. Activate it yourself to learn where it is.
  6. The wizard’s placement tool remains active until you right-click. On a touchscreen, use the button to finish placing objects.
  7. Place each distribution board or rack cabinet only once. A later step adds equipment to the existing cabinet. For racks, Lena explains automatic sizing, spare capacity and fixed-model selection.
  8. Marking a step as complete moves you forward; choosing to do it later marks it as deferred. Pausing the wizard preserves your progress.
  9. To resume, open Floor plan → Project and click Lena’s face icon next to Google Maps to open the project wizard. Use the voice controls to enable or mute narration, and Play again to repeat an instruction.

Voice is enabled by default for the first project unless this browser remembers a previous mute setting. If the browser blocks audio, click Play again. The wizard and the “Lena — Help” chat are separate features. The wizard summary does not certify the technical correctness of the installation.

Getting started

Estimate: scopes, rates and discounts

Set all labour rates in Estimate. Lena guides you to the same settings; the wizard does not create a separate estimate.

  1. At the top of Estimate, select the quote scope. Unchecked scopes exclude supply, installation and programming. Devices remain in the project and in design pricing. For example, uncheck IT network if you only design it.
  2. Click “Rates and pricing rules”. In “Your rates”, price design per point, per m² or as a fixed total. Enter the area for per-m² pricing.
  3. Under Programming, choose per device, per hour or a fixed total. Enter the base programming price for per-device pricing; also enter planned hours for hourly pricing.
  4. The “Installation and programming” table has one row per model. Enter the installation price. For per-device programming, select Standard (the configured base price), Not required (no charge), or Other and enter a custom amount. A model rate applies to all its units.
  5. Under LED strip installation, choose per metre or per piece (strip run), then enter the rate beside the model in the table. The two rates are saved separately. Per-metre installation uses the actual strip length. Material includes a 10% allowance and whole 5 m rolls, rounded up after adding the lengths for each model.
  6. Price wiring per point, per metre or as a fixed total. Cable material is a separate item. Under back boxes and additional work, check extra boxes, material prices and whether box installation is already included in the wiring rate.
  7. Click “Save rates”. “Use in future projects too” saves rates for future projects; earlier estimates remain unchanged. To apply account rates to an existing project, click “Apply Account Rates” and review the summary before confirming.
  8. Use “Add discount” for a percentage on line items, an overall percentage or a fixed amount. Edit a single item’s discount in its table row. Check net, VAT and gross totals.
  9. In “Estimate and quote settings”, choose Categories / Scopes, price visibility, project stages and advance payments. Quote export uses these settings.

Prices exclude VAT. An empty field does not mean zero; enter zero deliberately for free work. Switching to English does not convert the estimate to euros.

Cable estimation and selection with Lena

If your scope includes Wiring, the wizard has separate steps for lengths, product selection and installation labour pricing.

  1. Set the scale for each floor. Check routes, destinations, vertical runs and outlet heights.
  2. In Wiring, open Cable length settings. Check the multipliers and allowances at the source and endpoints for each cable type.
  3. Estimated length = base length × multiplier + source allowance + endpoint count × endpoint allowance. The source allowance is added where required for the segment. The wizard shows the project’s current Tree, Audio, DALI and LAN/Rack settings.
  4. Open Cable configuration in Wiring. Choose a catalogue product for each required cable type and check its price per metre and whether it is sold by the metre or by the roll.
  5. Price wiring installation labour separately in Estimate. Material costs use the selected cables; labour uses your chosen pricing method.
  6. Before exporting, check warnings about missing lengths and prices. An unscaled length is not automatically treated as zero.

The estimate does not replace checking actual routes and selecting suitable cable specifications.

Getting started

Your first project — from floor plan to quote

Start with the background plan and scale. Then place devices and prepare the estimate.

  1. Open My projects and choose New project. Give the project a name.
  2. In Floor plan → Project, upload a background and set its scale using a known length.
  3. Draw and name the rooms, then place devices from the catalogue.
  4. Check routes and cable selection in Wiring. Add distribution board and rack equipment if required.
  5. In Estimate, check scopes, prices and labour. Choose a customer document under Export.
  6. Check the save status before closing. Also keep a JSON copy of the project.
Floor plan and rooms

Background plans and floors

Each floor has its own background plan and scale.

  1. In Floor plan → Project, choose Upload a floor plan and select a file.
  2. For a multi-page PDF, select the appropriate page for the background.
  3. Add a floor, name it and upload its background. Switch floors using the floor list.
  4. Complete the client details, address, project description and VAT rate.

Uploading a floor plan does not create rooms automatically. Save a JSON backup before deleting a floor.

Floor plan and rooms

Setting the scale

The scale determines length, area and cable route measurements.

  1. Go to Floor plan → Project → Set floor plan scale.
  2. Select both ends of a segment with a known length.
  3. Enter its actual length. Check the result against another known dimension.
  4. Repeat the calibration for each floor.

Zooming does not change the project scale.

Floor plan and rooms

Drawing and naming rooms

Room outlines help assign devices to the correct rooms.

  1. In Rooms, select Draw a room and drag a rectangle around the room’s outline.
  2. For an L-shaped room, select Draw an irregular room. Mark the corners and close the outline by clicking the first point.
  3. Name the room. Select it later to edit its name or outline.
Floor plan and rooms

Layers and object visibility

Layers control what you see on the plan without removing devices from the project.

  1. Open Layers and select the object groups you need.
  2. Deselect groups that get in the way and check which floor is active.
  3. If an object disappears, check layers and filters before adding the device again.

Hiding a layer does not exclude its items from pricing. Change the estimate scope separately.

Devices

Choosing a model from the catalogue

Search for the exact model in the appropriate system or manufacturer’s catalogue.

  1. Choose a system in the catalogue and enter a product name or model code. Adjust the category filter if needed.
  2. View opens product information. Select prepares the device for placement; then click its installation location on the plan.
  3. On a computer, you can also drag a product card onto the plan.
  4. After placement, check the object type, cable, route and mounting height in its details.

Prices and stock levels come from the catalogue’s data source. Check current availability before purchasing.

Devices

Editing, replacing and updating multiple devices

Click a symbol on the plan or an item in the list to open its details.

  1. Edit the name, room, route, cable, height or notes. Field changes are saved automatically.
  2. Replace product changes the model while keeping its location. Check which devices are selected for replacement.
  3. Bulk editing lets you select fields and target devices. Select only the intended items and apply the change.
  4. Use Undo to reverse a mistake.

Export a JSON project backup before changing many objects.

Devices

Sockets, frames and electrical circuits

Add electrical objects using the tools in the Devices tab.

  1. Open Electrical loads and circuits and choose an object type.
  2. For a socket, set the number of frame positions and the contents of each, such as a power socket, LAN or double LAN outlet.
  3. Complete the circuit parameters and choose Place on plan.
  4. Select the installation location and check the room and distribution board assignments.

A double LAN outlet occupies one frame position but requires two network connections.

Devices

Lighting and LED strips

The lighting circuit wizard combines a light source with the components needed to operate it.

  1. In Devices, open Lighting circuit. Choose LED for a strip.
  2. Choose the strip, control method and power supply. Check the set’s voltage and power requirements.
  3. If you only need to draw the strip, choose the option without a controller instead of adding an arbitrary module.
  4. Choose a polyline or rectangle, start Draw strip and mark its path.
  5. Check the length, power supply location and set contents in the estimate.

Do not add components that are already included in the set.

Devices

Blinds and curtain tracks

The wizard helps you select the blind or curtain system, motor and controller.

  1. In Devices, open Blinds and curtain tracks.
  2. Choose the system type, manufacturer and appropriate set components.
  3. Set the controller location to local or distribution board, depending on the solution.
  4. Start placement and mark locations on the plan. Check the cable route and outlet height.
Devices

Cameras and sensor detection areas

The area shown on the plan helps assess the device’s direction and coverage.

  1. Add the exact camera model from the catalogue and select it on the plan.
  2. In its details, set the range, field-of-view angle, viewing direction and mounting height.
  3. For Optex sensors, check the green detection area and adjust its parameters to the mounting location.
  4. Verify the route type: CCTV to the rack, wired alarm sensors to the alarm panel.

The coverage drawing is a design aid. Range and geometry must match the specific model’s documentation and installation conditions.

Wiring

Selecting actual cable products

In Wiring, configure the cable’s use and select a specific catalogue product.

  1. Go to Floor plan → Wiring and open Cable configuration using the top toolbar icon.
  2. Choose a product for the required function. Check the manufacturer, price per metre and availability.
  3. You can change the cable assigned to an individual point in the device details.
  4. After a change, check the cable schedule and project estimate.

Also consider the operating environment, shielding and conductor type when selecting cables. A similar name does not prove compatibility.

Wiring

Cable lengths and allowances

The priced length includes the route and configured allowances.

  1. In Wiring, open Cable length settings using the configuration icon.
  2. For the relevant function, set the length multiplier and the allowances at the start and end, in metres.
  3. Check the route and floor scale.
  4. Compare the schedule length with the actual installation route.

Do not add allowances that the application has already included.

Wiring

Metres and full packs

The cable purchase quantity may differ from the route length.

  1. Check the pack length and whether the selected cable can be bought by the metre.
  2. Purchase by the metre applies when the requirement is less than half a pack, if the product supports this purchase method.
  3. From half a pack upwards, quantities are rounded up to full packs.
  4. For example, with 100 m packs, a 688 m requirement means buying 700 m. A short length may be priced by the metre.
Wiring

Cable routes

The route type defines the device’s connection destination.

  1. Select an object and check Cable route in its details.
  2. Choose the correct destination, such as a distribution board, rack or alarm panel.
  3. In Wiring, select the installation type to view the relevant routes.
  4. Check the route after replacing or moving a device.
Distribution board and rack

Electrical distribution board

The distribution board view is used to arrange modules and prepare documentation.

  1. Choose Electrical distribution board from the view menu.
  2. Set the number of DIN rails and module positions per rail.
  3. Check the circuits and incoming supply parameters before generating protective devices.
  4. Add DIN-mounted models and arrange them.
  5. Review the selection report, then prepare the PDF export.

Automatic selection is preliminary. The installation and protective devices must be checked by a suitably qualified person.

Distribution board and rack

Rack cabinet and shelves

The U size specifies the device’s mounting height in the rack.

  1. Choose Rack cabinet from the view menu and set the cabinet size.
  2. Add a switch, recorder or other device using Add to rack, or drag the model into the cabinet.
  3. Check U heights and occupied positions. Add shelves where devices need support.
  4. Move a shelf or change its U position. Check that the moved assembly does not overlap other devices.
  5. Run the cabinet check before exporting documentation.
Distribution board and rack

Ports, PoE and network connections

Port counts and power requirements depend on the specific device model.

  1. After adding a switch, check its port count, port types and PoE support.
  2. Assign LAN outlets, cameras and access points to patch panel and switch ports.
  3. Check connections between the ISP router, gateway, switch and controller.
  4. Allow for ports used by connections between devices.
  5. Check the PoE standard and power budget. Controllers and access points may have different power requirements.
Estimate and documents

How the estimate total is calculated

The estimate depends on selected scopes, line items, quantities, rates and discounts.

  1. Open Estimate and check the quote scope shown at the top.
  2. Check equipment, wiring and service items, including quantities and net prices.
  3. Click “Rates and pricing rules” to set design, wiring, installation and programming in one dialog.
  4. Check discounts and the assignment of shared items to scopes.
  5. Compare net, VAT and gross totals. If only part of the price is visible, check scopes and permissions first.

Deselecting a scope excludes it from the estimate and quote without deleting its devices.

Estimate and documents

Custom services, discounts and VAT

You can add a service without creating a catalogue product.

  1. At the bottom of Estimate, select Service, enter a name and net amount, then click Add item.
  2. Use Add section if you need a separate group.
  3. Use Add discount and check the updated summary.
  4. Change the project VAT rate in Floor plan → Project.
Estimate and documents

Short and detailed quotes

You can adjust the document scope before generating it.

  1. Choose quote preparation under Export.
  2. The short quote includes the cover, plan and estimate by default. The detailed quote includes all available pages.
  3. Check the selected pages before generating the document. Your previous selection may have been saved.
  4. In Estimate → Estimate and quote settings, choose section totals only or individual item prices as well.
  5. Check the text and amounts, then download the PDF.
Estimate and documents

Project stages and advance payments

Project stages are part of the quote settings.

  1. In Estimate, open “Estimate and quote settings”.
  2. Add or edit a stage under Project stages and advance payments.
  3. Set the names and percentages and check the summary.
  4. Compare the payment schedule with the agreement for the project.

Percentages apply to the quote’s gross total.

Estimate and documents

PDF project and current view

The project PDF documents the plan and selected installations.

  1. Under Export, open project PDF generation.
  2. Choose a floor plan style, paper size and the required pages.
  3. Generate current view includes the objects currently visible. Set the layers before exporting.
  4. Check the crop and plan coverage before confirming.
  5. Open the generated file and check label readability, scale and completeness of the pages.

Do not change the project while the export is being generated. If the export fails, try a smaller selection of pages and report the problem with the settings you used.

Estimate and documents

Excel schedule

The export includes the estimate and schedules needed for the project.

  1. In Estimate → Estimate and quote settings, select Categories or Scopes. Excel uses the saved layout.
  2. Under Export, select Excel schedule.
  3. Start with Summary, then check Estimate and Materials. The remaining sheets contain wiring and installation details.
  4. Empty sheets are omitted. Use filters in list tables; headers stay visible as you scroll.

The schedule reflects the project and prices at the time of export. Generate a new file after changing the project.

Saving and collaboration

Saving online and JSON backups

The save status tells you whether your changes have reached the server.

  1. In an online project, watch for Saving… and Online · saved.
  2. Wait for confirmation that the project has been saved before closing it.
  3. Export JSON creates an editable copy of the project. Use Open from file to load it again.
  4. JSON and PDF copies serve different purposes: PDF presents the document, while JSON lets you continue editing.

Do not rely on browser storage as your only backup.

Saving and collaboration

Connection loss and save conflicts

No connection means that saving your changes to the server has not been confirmed.

  1. If you see No connection, save a copy of your changes before refreshing the page.
  2. Export the current project to JSON if this option is available.
  3. When the connection returns, check that the status changes to Online · saved.
  4. If there is a conflict or a message about changes in another tab, save a JSON copy and then reopen the current project.

The application does not yet provide a fully independent offline mode. Do not edit the same project in multiple tabs at once.

Saving and collaboration

Sharing projects and access to estimates

Permission to edit and permission to view the estimate are separate settings.

  1. Open the online project and its sharing panel.
  2. Select a person and a role: viewer or editor.
  3. Choose separately whether the person can view the estimate. Check this setting before sending the invitation.
  4. You can change an existing participant's access to the estimate in the sharing panel.

The project owner retains access to pricing. Restricting estimate access also restricts documents and operations that include prices.

Account and support

Account details and subscription

My account brings together your profile, billing and additional features.

  1. Under Account details, enter your company details and check your sign-in method.
  2. Under Your subscription, check your plan, access expiry date and payment method.
  3. Monthly subscriptions are paid online. Annual subscriptions also support bank transfers.
  4. Access expires at the end of the paid period, with no additional seven-day grace period.

A bank transfer must be received and matched to the correct invoice. Initiating a transfer does not confirm activation. See Pricing for current prices.

Account and support
